Of the 80 or so paintings I had done at this point, this one is definitely in my top 5! It was late at night and I had just finished a piece with four shades of green. I had quite a bit of paint left over, but not enough for a complete piece. So, I grabbed all the different greens I had (plus a touch of yellow and copper for good measure) and mixed up small quantities of 6 other colors (9 in total). I was looking at the time thinking, "What are you doing? It's way past your bedtime! This is going to be one big muddy mess and you're just wasting paint now..." But I went for it and this BEAUTIFUL (if I do say so myself) canvas is the result! The lacing, the cells, the colors, the composition... it all just works!
