Serendipity

High quality canvases are expensive. As I do more and more pouring, I like to experiment and try new things. But not every pour is succesful and if a piece just isn't working, it's best to scrape the canvas so you can use it again. The only thing you've lost is paint and time. But sometimes when an experiment fails, I'll gather some extra paint sitting around the studio and make an attempt to "save" the piece. If it doesn't work out I can still scrape it, but sometimes, you have a beautiful accident. This canvas was intended to be a monochromatic cloud pour--Purple on white--but my mixture was wrong and it didn't turn out. Instead of scraping it I thinned down a few colors I had lying around, and tried to turn it into a Dutch pour. The result is this gorgeous mistake! Almost as if it was meant to be. Serendipity!
